George Trachilis

President and CEO

George is co-founder and president Lean Leadership Institute, based in Winnipeg, Canada. LLI is an international coaching-services company founded in 2013. An engineer and entrepreneur, George visits Japan each year with Norman Bodek, Paul Akers, and Ritsuo Shingo for a deeper understanding of lean. He has the pleasure of videotaping the entire tour for training and development purposes. George trains students in an online setting where he introduces the Toyota Way, Toyota Kata and Harada Method bodies of knowledge. He has students in Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, USA, Australia, and has just published a book with Jeff Liker that received the Shingo Research Award. That book has now been translated into 8 different languages.

Jeffrey K. Liker

Partner & Senior Advisor

Dr. Jeffrey K. Liker is a Partner of the Lean Leadership Institute, and Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan. His on site consulting firm is Liker Lean Advisors – a network of top-notch practitioners who consult, coach and teach in The Toyota Way.

Tom Lawless

Partner & VP - USA Operations

As a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Tom is a proven Lean Six Sigma operations leader with more than 25 years of experience working with a diverse range of clients in manufacturing and distribution. His focus on accountability through metrics allows him to focus closely on financial analysis and evaluation of product costing, value stream mapping and continuous improvement. He influences, persuades and motivates people at all levels to grow. As part of his consulting work, he coaches sales teams, helping them identify new opportunities by focusing on quality and continuous improvement.

Charles Cai

Partner & VP - China Operations

Dr. Cai is a senior lean consultant, working with Liker Lean Advisors, LLC, founded by Professor Jeff Liker of University of Michigan, in lean consulting worldwide in past 10 years. Charles is specialized in The Toyota Way, Toyota Production System (TPS), lean thinking, on site lean tool applications and lean leader development.

He has successfully helped many companies worldwide in lean implementations, from start up to Fortune 500 companies in fields of pharmaceutical, chemical, forging, casting, electronics, automobiles, shoe making and machinery. Among those companies, the Caterpillar plant in Tianjin, China he coached in 2005-2008 was ranked in No.1 in Caterpillar worldwide in lean transformation.

Jim Lippens

Partner & VP - Belgium Operations

Jim is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Lean Manufacturing Expert, and Harada Method Master trainer, and inventor of 3 patents. He worked 10 years in automotive (Johnson Controls), and has 10 extra years of experience in 6S, Lean, Continuous Improvement, Quality, Plant Management and R&D in textile/artificial turf business. Jim is an innovator, pioneer and change agent focusing on the human side. In the near future Jim plans to write/translate Lean experiences in dutch.

Chad Bisko

Partner & VP - Canadian Operations

As a values-based leader, project manager and transformation strategist, Chad Bisko has been driving change for growth-oriented companies for 15+ years. His proven cross-industry experience in aerospace, manufacturing, service and other industries has given him a unique perspective on change management, and he consistently inspires teams and eliminates operational and supply-chain inefficiencies to propel organizations to the next level of performance.

Arnout Orelio

Partner - The Netherlands Operations

With a background in engineering, Arnout began his career by applying Lean Manufacturing techniques in an automotive setting, with Mitsubishi and Volvo. Arnout joined a Lean consultancy firm in 1999. For almost two decades, he has supported and guided organisations on their Lean journeys.

In 2005, Arnout created a dedicated team, tasking it with the specific aim of promoting and spreading Lean thinking in the healthcare sector. At the same time Dutch hospitals began experimenting with Lean tools, and many of them did so under Arnout’s guidance. In 2010 he founded his own firm focussing on lean thinking in healthcare. Among his clients are some of the major (academic) hospitals in The Netherlands. Many of his students published articles and books, in both Dutch and English, on their lean journey.

Arnout specialises in inculcating a culture of continuous improvement, while incorporating a wide range of process improvement, change management and systems thinking techniques. His focus is on the support leaders and coaches on their lean journey.

Lori Payne

Partner - Canadian Operations

Lori is Co-Owner and President of Payne Consulting & Coaching Inc. specializing in quality, service & innovation in Aerospace, Industry and Health Care.  Introduced to Lean over twenty years ago in the maintenance of Gas Turbines, Lori has participated and led dozens of business process redesign, and international projects; coaching teams and persons to solve complex situations.

As a certified Lean Six-Sigma Black belt, he has led many successful Lean Six-Sigma projects in many different sector/functions/areas. One of which, in 2009, was awarded “Best Lilly European Black Belt of the year” for the projects results.

He has an extensive experience people leadership, management and coaching in different business sectors and consolidated knowledge of strategy, organization, marketing, sales, supply chain and customer services processes.

Norman Bodek


Norman is a teacher, consultant, author and publisher, he founded Productivity Press, and is the Executive Vice-President of the Lean Leadership Institute. He has met with and studied the teachings of Deming, Joseph M. Juran, Philip B. Crosby, and Kaoru Ishikawa, and published the works of Yoji Akao, Taiichi Ohno, and Shigeo Shingo and 100 others. He has published over 100 Japanese management books in English, and teaches the Best of Japanese management at Portland State University.

Paul Akers


Paul is founder and president of FastCap LLC, based in Bellingham, WA. FastCap is an international product development company founded in 1997 with over 2000 distributors worldwide. He catapulted into the business world when his knack for problem solving led to an invention, and eventually his own manufacturing business that started in his garage. Through a series of twists and turns he discovered Lean and the Toyota Production System (TPS) which helped to launch his business from the garage into the successful international product development company known as Fastcap.

Ritsuo Shingo


Ritsuo Shingo is currently president of Institute of Management Improvement and senior advisor to the Lean Leadership Institute. Ritsuo is former president of Sichuan Toyota, China (a Start-Up), the first joint venture Toyota established in China to produce the Toyota Coaster, a mini bus. Ritsuo had a very unique career at Toyota as he was responsible for start-up projects. He was also involved in NUMMI (California, Kentucky, and United Kingdom) and GAC-Hino (China).

Charles Protzman


Charlie is an internationally renowned Lean implementer, trainer and Shingo Prize winning author with over 35 years experience in Materials and Operations Management. He has consulted with manufactures, hospitals, government agencies and other service industries. He has currently published Leveraging Lean in Healthcare Series, One-Piece Flow vs. Batching, Card Based Control Systems For A Lean Work Design, and the Lean Practitioners Field book.

Charlie has spent the last 24 years implementing successful lean product line conversions, kaizen events, administrative business system improvements (transactional lean) across the U.S and internationally. He is following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who was part of the Civil Communications Section (CCS) of the American Occupation. It was his grandfather that recommended Deming’s 1950 visit to Japan, C.W. Protzman Sr. surveyed over 70 Japanese Companies in 1948 finding that their manufacturing problems were the result of weak leadership and processes. Starting in late 1949, Homer Sarasohn and C. W. Protzman Sr. taught top executives of prominent Japanese Communication Companies, including Sony, Sumitomo, Hitachi, Nippon and Matsushita, an 8-week course in American Participative Management and Quality techniques in Osaka and Tokyo. Over 5,100 top Japanese executives had taken the course by 1956.

Daniel Protzman is Director of Customer Solutions for consulting company, Business Improvement Group LLC. In addition to benchmarking companies around the world, Daniel has consulted with a multitude of clients including Foundries, Manufacturing companies and those in the Service and Healthcare Industries. Daniel is also the co-author of upcoming book, One Piece Flow vs Batching.

John Allwood


John Allwood is currently advanced manufacturing engineer for PGI MFG., which is a first tier supplier to Caterpillar; as well as Bosch, Meritor, and Parker Hannifin. He is also coaching a transformation to a LEAN Operating System, at PGI. The PGI team has put in place and is operating 5 fully functional single piece flow value streams. With John’s coaching, PGI has been rolling out the “Peru Production System” (PPS), established in January, 2015.

Harry Kenworthy


Harry Kenworthy is Principal & Manager of the Quality and Productivity Improvement Center (QPIC, LLC). He holds a B.S. in Materials Engineering and a MBA in Finance.

Harry worked for a NYSE company for 26 years in a variety of capacities including, Operations Manager, Division Manager, Group VP and, for his last 3 years, as Corporate VP, Manufacturing, including his role as the corporation’s Executive Lean Six Sigma Champion. He also worked directly with Dr. W. Edwards Deming from 1983-85 4-5 times/year on a series of two day MIT sponsored seminars. He also had working relationships with Dr. Joseph Juran and Dorian Shainin. Harry was a national Baldrige award examiner from 1989-1991.

Daniel Stanley is the President and CEO of Alpha Academic Press, as well as the Vice President of Publications for the Lean Leadership Institute.

He has an extensive career of over 30 years in automotive engineering and the industrial chemical industry. Holding advanced degrees in engineering, chemistry and business, he is also an IQF certified 6-Sigma Master Black Belt. He resides in Dearborn, Michigan with his wife and two children.

Richard Jungkind


Richard Jungkind received his Mechanical Engineering degree from Ryerson University. He also has a diploma in Business Administration from Wilfred Laurier University.
